Can you expand on this? Does the Navigation Bar (toolbar to the right edge of model canvas) allow the access you are looking for? Have you tried the Navigation Wheels that are also available from the Navigation Bar? They will put all the zoom controls directly under your mouse.
Navigation allows access to to all the zoom commands but only yhe most recent action is available without entering the 'pull down'. customization of the navigation bar would allow you to put all the zoom commands or any navigation command on the top level so that they can be access with one click without haveing to access a 'pull down'
