The ability to choose a 3D region of a larger model to read into CFD

It would be useful to have the ability to choose a 3D region of a model that would be read into CFD, rather than the current approach of reading through everything that is on-screen.

For instance, a large building in Revit with lots of detail, we may wish to run an analysis on a small 'L' shaped room buried in the centre. If we had functionality that allowed us to sketch a bounding box around that region and only read this into CFD it would be very useful.

I have heard variations on this request and would be interested in learning more about particular use cases, from Revit and otherwise. Specifically I've heard folks request the ability to "extract," so to speak, a single room or level from a Revit model, like Jon mentioned above. To the Revit experts: is there already a concept of a "room" or "level" in the Revit/BIM model that CFD could leverage?

While we are a fan of this idea, the timing for development isn't right now.

The workaround would be to hide/suppress regions that you don't want to analyze before importing.

Future consideration means this may be something we come back to, or maybe something that fits better in a different product, so feel free to continue commenting and voting.

Cheers,

Ryan
