Is there any way I can update the Shape Extraction Tool for AutoCad 2011 or do I have to upgrade to AutoCad 2012 to be able to use the Shape Extraction Tool?

You can extract the files and load them manually on AutoCAD 2011.

I tried following the instructions as provided in your link and I received the following error: "c:\program files\autodesk\autocad 2011\shapeextractionapp.arx cannot find a procedure that it needs" The only difference I saw between the directions in your link and the extracted files was the Autocad 2012 files had a pcse.cuix file as compared to a pclab.cuix file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the MSI extraction will not work I will forward the team feedback, but the only plans are to officially support current releases for technology previews. It should have worked as the API has not changes and a cuix would not normally cause that error. It would be the result of perhaps a compiled shared resource file on your system or within the specific version of AutoCAD in this case perhaps the Point Cloud feature APIs updated in AutoCAD 2012.

Please pass the extraction difficulties on to the design team. I would like to continue using the Shape Extraction tool and hope that AutoCAD continues to develop it further, to the point where it is either a permanent feature of AutoCAD or a stand alone product that you can purchase.

I will make them aware the tool does not work on 2011, but I have been told the intention was to only support the current 2012 release for the technology feedback.

Has this issue been resolved to work with AutoCAD 2011 once again? We really like this tool not only for AutoCAD 2012, but also for AutoCAD 2011. Please make this tool available once again in AutoCAD 2011 if possible soon!! We would like to take advantage of the new expiration date of the PC Lab until February 1, 2012!!

Technology previews are intended for teams to collect feedback. The Shape Extraction team is currently collecting feedback from the 2012 user base. That is large enough for them to meet their needs. Should they decide to get back to this code to make some improvements, they can also look at making installer changes to allow it to be compatible with 2011. The problem is that nothing is scheduled at this time. My intent here is to avoid giving anyone false hope.
