    Installation Problem

I am trying to install the new shape extraction plug-in and it tells me there is another ad-in installed that needs to be uninstalled to continue.  It asks to unistall and I say yes.  The installer then says there is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Any ideas?

    NIck,

Could it be you did not uninstall the previous version of the Shape ExtractionTechnology Preview before installing the new version?

The webpage said to install it right over the previous version, but I have since tried to uninstall the previous version and the windows installer comes up and just disapears and the shape extractor stays listed under my programs.

What page address has this instruction to install over top of the existing so we can correct that as I could not find it? I don't think that is correct and definitely bad practice as it causes problems with install counts in the registry. With MSI installed applications always uninstall the old first then the new.

Here is the article that says to install over the previous version.

I had to download windows install clean up to remove the original version and then the new msi file worked file to install.

Thank you. I will talk weith the team as installing over a MSI is not advised but perhaps there is something special in this MSI installer. Glad the instal remover solved your issue.

travistlo only had success by installing the new version over the older one.
