Hi,
I am working on a very simple structure that has vertical flat cross bracing in one bay. I have set the member definition to not consider compression buckling, as these members will resist lateral forces in tension. My problem comes when asking Robot to calculate the tensile strength of the flat plate using the American Code ( ANSI-AISC 360-05 ).
It is a 150x15mm plate. The calculations correctly calculate the gross area (Ag) as 2250mm2. However, the critical case for the tensile capacity is the tensile strength multiplied by the effective area (Ae) - equation D2-2 in the code. The problem is that Robot calculates the Ae as 2250mm2 but I cannot seem to work out how to tell it that it needs to take away two 22mm diamater bolt holes away from the gross area to get the effective area.
2250 - 2*22*15mm = 1590mm2
Can anyone help?
