Eurocode 8 - Seismic Analysis (Portuguese Annex)

Hello

When trying to do a seismic analysis via portuguese national annex, I realized that the reference acceleration values for some zones are outdated, as the nomenclature of the zones and ground types. Also, another problem is that the coefficiente to account for damping coeficientes different than 5% (η) is calculated differently (the new formula is

η = [10/(5+xi)]^0,5) . Is there any way to correct this? I'm open to correct this by myself, just want to know how..

Thank you!

HI ziegler,

You should use General way to define Seismic Action, not national anexx way (as you can see is outdated, it's from 2000 version).

Cumprimentos,

Hello!

Yes, I know that I can do it that way, but I wanted to develop some kind of automatic process so that I could do it in some future projects .. besides, the damping coefficient correction for the elastic response spectrum isn't calculated in the general load case! But thank you for your sugestion 🙂

What is the exact name of the current Portuguese version of EC8?

Do you know if there is its English version available?

"Eurocódigo 8 – Projecto de estruturas para resistência aos sismos" Edição de 2010

or:

NP EN 1998-1:2010

PS: I don't think there is any english version of the current portuguese annex of EC8.

"...besides, the damping coefficient correction for the elastic response spectrum isn't calculated in the general load case!"

And how can you do this by using Portuguese Annex on Robot?

My bad! I was convinced that you could define the damping coefficient in the portuguese annex, don't know why.. You define it in the modal analysis parameters!

After doing some tryouts, when going trough the calculation report I noticed some issues:

1. The dampinng coefficient correction, although correct in it's representation, it's value is still outdated (in other words, calculated by [7/(2+xi)]^0,5.

2. When selecting the elastic spectrum, the calculation report states that it's the dimensioning spectrum, although it calculates correctly the acceleration spectrum

PS: This was done using the Eurcode 8-1:2004 General.

Dear Artur,

You can see the portuguese version here

http://pt.scribd.com/doc/39383648/NPEN001998-1-2010.

The national annex is from page 205 till the end. What you need is in tables and I think you don't need translation for that. But If you need, maybe I can help you. Please let me know, if you need any help with translation.

Regards

Answering to remarks of ziegler123 concerning EN1998-1-1:2004-General code:

1/ The value of damping correction coefficient in the calculation note incoherent with the formula and with the value really used in calculations - fixed in 2014 release

2/ Incorrect name of elastic spectrum in the calculation note - registered to be fixed

Is there any possibility to release a hotfix for RSAP 2013?

It is fixed in RSA Pro 2015
