numbering piles

Hi, as I'm brandnew to revit structure, I was wondering:
is there a routine or family to number foundation piles?

Or a tip how to approach this.

Regards,
Jan

We have created a single pile family from a Structural Foundations family. The description parameter is set to Pile.
A Structural Foundations schedule is then created which filters out all other foundations that don't have the description set to Pile, leaving just the pile count.

By setting the Shared family parameter in the pile family, we can then use this pile family in other foundations families and still retain an accurate pile count.

[But maybe I shouldn't be telling you this as we use Architecture, and Autodesk considers your discipline and my discipline two separate fields of expertise.]

Thanks, we've already done that. ;-))
The problem is actually this:
every pile gets numbered so when jamming them into the earth we can
check wether the pile is good or not or when during the proces something
goes wrong te contactor calls us and gives the number of this pile.
We than can take appropiate action.
That's why i'm searching for a numbering tag (think of hundreds of piles
to be numbered :-(( ).

Regards,
Jan

we use a couple of different generic tags for similar purposes. For
example, you can use a custom tag that calls the data in the "Comment
Parameter". If you get that, then it is easy to understand how you can
make a tag to call any other bit of data, provided the parameter has
been added to the family. Open your pile, and add a parameter for Pile
Number. Make it an instance parameter, and you could make it either a
text or numeric field. Then you can (manually) add the number value to
the parameters when the pile is inserted in the model. The parameter can
also be scheduled if desired.

Hope this helps...

It doesn't give a real answer with thousands of piles you cant insert and number all the piles

We have downloaded from the following website a Revit Extension.

Once set up you can give each pile a unique number to add into the pile schedule.
