beam system comes into model below work plane

In a brand new model I started I have a sloped roof diaphragm modeled. I set the work plane to be the underside of the diaphragm and proceed to model a beam framing system. For some reason the beam system comes in 8" - 12" below the work plane. To put it back to the underside of the diaphragm I have to modify the Z direction offset of all the individual framing members. Is there a setting or some default that may have gotten changed that I can to fix to ensure that my beam framing systems come in at the work plane that I have set? I set the work plane and model the beam framing system all in the 3-D view; I didn't switch views during the process so I don't think the set work plane got messed up. Any help is appreciated.

Issue resolved. We forgot to update the out of the box families when we installed Revit 2014 - since the parameters changed and all.
