Writing Script Routines in Revit?

Anyone know if it's possible to duplicate one of our workflow methods in Revit?  Under the AutoCAD platform, we had a script routine with a keyboard shortcut.  Specifically we set it up to initiate a leader, and ask for the note number.  This number referenced a text file with a list of standard notes we like to use detail to detail.  We'd like to create something similar in Revit, without resorting to keynoting.  Keynoting is great, but this is more for non-modeled elements and detail components (i.e. "RAILING, SEE ARCH DWGS").

It almost certainly be done through the API- you'll need to have some .NET skills (VB or C#).

 

I'm not a programmer, but I understand there are samples included in the Revit installation.
