Generating Typical Details

I am trying to get started in building a library of typical details for my office.

Is there any way to "flatten" a view that contains model information into becoming a drafting view?  This would be extremely useful since I have already (and will continue to) generate details from section views.  The problem is that you cannon insert a section/plan view from one file to another.

Any suggestions on how to do this or insight on how others have built up detail libraries would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Jac

there is a way...there is an add-on tool found on the autodesk website under subscription tools called Freeze Drawing.  You msut be logged into subscription center to get it, and it's found by installing the Revit Extensions, which is a collection of extra tools.  Freeze Drawing essentially takes a view, creates a DWG, makes a drafting view, and inserts the DWG linework into it.  You can then explode the DWG (not usually recommended) and you can draft additional info over it and add annotations.  It's a drafting view with a DWG inserted into it.

Many would argue that its not worth bringing all that DWG info into your Revit session, so you could just use Linework in Revit to "trace" over the model elements, and then turn the model elements off in that view.  This is much like the Freeze drawing, but you are doing it with native Revit linework.

You can also do the Freeze Drawing manually:  Just export the view to DWG, create a new drafting view, and insert the DWG.  Never have to open (or even have) AutoCAD.

See if this simple steps answers your problem...While in active sheets, try R>SaveAs>Library>View.
