Filter based on beam type parameters

Hi,

Is it possible to apply a filter to beams (or other elements) base on their type parameters? In this instance I'm looking for a way of identifying beams that are more than 500mm deep.

Hi.

Yes you can. Do the following:

1- Select beam, edit family.

2- Open family parameters, Add Type Parameter called H and in formula put ( = h )

3- Save and load your family.

4- When you add a filter based on structural framing, it will be part of the list.

5- Make sure your filter according to H > 500

6- Now just add your filter where needed.

If it was only as easy as that! No. In a nutshell, you will have to edit each of your families and create a new shared parameter. Then you can follow what was described by the earlier reply  of linking that shared parameter to the depth value in the family (if you want this to apply to columns and beams each one is a different family) Then in your project, you want to create a Project parameter and link that one to the shared parameter, assign it to the proper categories. This will then allow you to have access to this value in a filter so you can create a graphic override. It is a one time expense, but then can become part of your template for future projects. Quick recap: fIrst step was to make the parameter shedulable and taggable in the project; second step was to make it available in your project as an element that can be used in a filter.

I attaced two screenshot to show the detail steps, hope it will make more clear.

Step1: see "1.JPG". (create a shared parameter in family file, and use formula to connect this shared parameter with existing dimension parameter)

Step2: see "2.JPG" (go to view fileter, click add more parameter button, then project parameters dialog show up, click Add, and check Shared parameter, then choose the parameter just created in the family. Also, make sure check Structural Framing as the categories).

but in the list
