I'm trying to cut a depression into a floor slab in Revit 2012. I've tried to make a void form, on the grounds that I'm trying to make a void in my slab, but it doesn't show up unless I'm cutting a void in a mass. I also tried to use the shaft command, without extending it completely through the floor, but as soon as it reaches the floor it cuts completely through.
Is there a way to cut a volume out of a floor slab without cutting completely through the slab?
Thanks.

Try this, it works for rectangular openings. Just create different family types for depth of depression.
This may not be the best solution, but if I have a 6" slab and need a 2" depression, I cut a hole through the slab. Then I place a 4" slab in the void 2" down then join the 2 slabs. This gives me the appearance I need and the correct volume of concrete.
This worked perfect! Exactly what I have been looking for. And I was able to modify it so the depth was adjustable. Thanks jbrazier!!

How about "Opening--Shaft" with defined constraints?
I beleive a shaft opening will always cut all the way through a floor/slap that it touches- you can't partially cut with a shaft opening.

this family worked a treat!
