Bar Joist Connections

Hello - I have a client with an issue and I am not sure how to fix it...

He is putting in bar joist and it is automatically connecting together and they do not want it to.

I have attached 2 images - the good one is what they want... The bad is what they are getting.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

LD

Hey Lisa,

I tried to reproduce this and wasn't able to. Do you have a really basic file (really just the two bar joists and the wide flange) that you could post?

Hello Katie - I may have solved this problem in looking at it again. When placing the joists they were touching - and then joining... If I moved it away a little - they would un-join and work the way they are needed to.

I tried to post a file with just two joise and a beam and it was still too big.. i even purged the file and cound not get it down small enough to post.

Thank you for the response!

Hey Lisa,

You might be able to play around with the Z Direction Justification and Offset values to avoid a join at that location. I briefly mention how those could be used in a Revit Clinic post (http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/08/tips-for-beam-cutbacks-in-mediumfine-detail.html).

I'm glad it sounds like you might have figured it out - let us know if you're still having issues!
