turn off calculations

I am using Revit MEP 2012.

I have a warning "no loss defined",  I tried to use turn off calculations.

still the warnings apeear.

I upgraded the file to Release 2013 , and turned off calculations , the warnings gone.

is there is a (Hotfix or update) for Revit MEP 2012 to solve this problem ?

Simple and easiest thing to do is to define a specific loss even if a notional value for each type of element.

no it is not easy.

I have did all the systems , they contain thousands of objects (fixtures , fittings).

you can edit plumbing families , and change them to specific loss, but for HVAC families, you can't .

also you can't edit fittings families to change to specifc loss, as it is an instance parameter. you need to selct each one and change it.

the only solution is to hide the warnings by turning off calculations.

as I explained I did this, but it wasn't effective , since warnings still there.

but in Revit MEP 2013 , it works fine.

I think that there is something error in Revit , it should be fixed.

Sorry but you are wrong in some of your statements - kind of disturbing as you are an Autodesk Consulting Specialist and certified trainer!

Of course you can change the HVAC families to have specific losses. You can also map custom family/shared parameters to these to allow specific changes within a model

 

As for fittings - generally it is taps/shoes that cause the problem and you don't have to do each one individually. You can right click on one and then select all instances in project and do each type in one go.

Also if the fittings lose their loss coefficient from a table it is most likely because you are modelling a fitting that does not comply with the Ashrae fitting database which means you shouldn't really be using that fitting in that situation (unless it is a specific fitting type of fitting in which case you should be specifying either a loss coefficient or a specific loss)

 

You have to ask yourself - Are you using systems to their full capacity or just joining pipes to equipment?

  • If you are using systems to their full capacity then you can't turn of calculations to remove the warnings. Instead you need to deal with the warnings.
  • If you are only modelling then you have to ask yourself - do you really need to deal with "no loss defined" warnings as you aren't worried about the pressure drops of systems?

Perhaps it is a glitch in the systems - but I doubt it is very high on Autodesk's priorities when there are much bigger and more important things to fix/implement.

If it works in 2013 then that will be the tick box checked for Autodesk and we will have to live with it or find new ways to deal with it whilst using 2012!!

Sorry , I think I have replied previously without review what I wrote.

Yes, you are right , we can modify families , instance & type parameters, and each instance of type objects.

But this will take too much time , since I have many of objects (families & types) in (mechanical , plumbing , firefighting) systems.

also, I found that some objects used in the projects are not compatible with Ashree , and important parameters (affects pressure & flow calculations) are missing.

In fact , I received that file for review. and as you said , the project file was created without taking care of using Revit MEP capabilities , the project was only 3D Model.

That’s why I just want to turn off the warnings (related to loss) without spending time for correction, and to fix only the other warnings.

And the final result I took , is to update the file to Revit MEP 2013, and the warnings are gone.
