slow

I am linking in a 17 meg Revit file into Revit Systems
The only way I can work on the file is in shaded mode
if I change to hidden line mode I have to wait for 5 minutes or more
everytime I pan never mind changing to another view.
Please tell me I am doing something wrong and the program isn't this slow
this is a tiny linked file compared to what I would normally be working with

I haven't linked into systems yet, (still playing with an eval copy) but w/in building you can get some serious memory impacts from hidden line view. no clue why, you'd think hidden would be less than shaded.

Got to Settings>Options and uncheck Open GL and Overlay Planes in the
Graphics Tab.

is there a lot of detail in the model? do you have it set to coarse?

are there a lot of groups in either of the models?
groups seem to have a huge impact on speed.

I can set it to coarse or fine with it shaded but if it is hidden line it's
unbearable
It is an office space with a lot of cubicles which are family files but this
is in the linked file
I only have two or three ducts shown

no groups in either the main file or the linked file
it's strage because I can open up the file that I am linking with Revit
building and the file works fine
it is when I link it into Revit Systems it slows down

hmm you may want more robust hardware there. thats' a 128M card right?

i havent tried to run revit on anything less than a 256M card, if memory servers thats a raedon 300 card.... i *think* that my old nvidia 5700 is the comperable nvidia set to that chipset, but i'm not positive. never had an issue on the 5700, other than in a *HUGE* project that a designer had insisted on rendering -every littl thing- in detail (think door knobs, and hinges....)

nother thing:

are you using the revit specified drivers for the card?

if you're on a different build of building vs structure that could have a differtn preffered driver or a rolled back version.

Didn't realize there where specific video card drivers for Revit
I am using the latest build of Systems but I don't think it is the latest
build of Building
the file works fine in Building just when I link it into Systems does it
slow down
I would think the video card should be able to support a 17 meg linked file
amd 2 ten foot pieces of ductwork
I appreciate the help your giving me

Revit doesn't actually use much video card. A high-end card isn't going to
help. There are a few that are not compatible, which will give you
problems.

17 Meg file should be no problem at all. You may want to check the build of
Building. the first release of 9.0 had an issue with linked files and
speed.

It's mostly the dashed hidden line processing that happens when the view discipline is Mechanical and set to Hiiden Line. Shaded view is much faster...go figure. Also, if you use Coordination view discipline it's much faster to work in without the dashed hidden line processing, then use Mechanical view discipline set to Hidden Line for WYSIWIG plot checking.

Coordination view works faster
Jason has the file and has been looking into it too

We have experienced terribly slow panning and zooming when working on Mechanical plans in Hidden mode. Changing to Wireframe increases the pan and zoom performance exponentially!

The strange thing is that this only occurs in plan view. In 3d views there is no noticeable difference between Hidden, Shaded or Wireframe.

Have you tried changing the view discipline from Mechanical to Coordination? This turns off the automatic hidden line processing.
