Web-based Central file?

Would it be possible to have a central file located on a web site or FTP site? Can you set the path to a Central file to a URL? That way two different companies could work on the same model at once. Since all of the work is done in the local files, the only downfall might be slow "save to central" and "reload latest" times. Just a thought.

I believe it will create problems, including slow processing, may create problem with rules of access and inadvertent corruption of central file.
Sharing Worksets with different firms working on the Model may be the best method yet.

At one point HP was touting a technology that was supposed to address this
exact issue. That was at AU2004 and I haven't heard about it since...

We have the ability to log into our office server from home. When we work on Revit from a remote location, saving to central and opening the model takes forever. In other words, I would not recommend trying it.

when working remote on revit, performance is best if you use remote desktop
(broadband of course:) to connect to good machine with revit installed and
user file and connected thru gigabit to the good server with central file.
this way all that is transferred thru the internet pipe is screen display of
machine at the office.

or check out worksets and bring the user file off site. save to central
when you have a gigabit connection to the central file.
