Revit export to Navisworks - Objects appear under <No Level> in selection tree

In Revit:

1. I create a 3D View of a 7 story building

Then

2. I hide everything but Mechanical using WORKSETS via VG command as well as Uncheck unnecessary elements under Model Category

3. I switch to Add-ins menu and I export the view using External Tools > Navisworks 2012

The save as menu pop ups and the file to be saved is "NWC" file type. At the bottom there is a "Navisworks settings" button. I have also played with several options there.

Now after the export is done by saving a new NWC file.

In Navisworks Manage 2012

The model looks great. But here is a problem

There are tons of items/objects that appear under "<No level> in selection tree. (Please see the attached photo)

These items actually belong to a particular level in Revit (Verified in Revit using element id search method)

They should appear under their particular floor level.

what could be causing it?

Programs used:

Revit 2011

Revit 2012

Service Pack 1 for Revit

Navisworks Manage 2012

This is something we are aware of, normally it occurs with objects over multiple levels but there are other occasions where this happens too.

There is a change request in for this and we hope to improve it in a future release.

Hi Guys,

I know this is an old post from you guys. Is there a way the select tree will not divide your model by levels? Is there exports settings in revit that allow this?

i have been making 3d views for each disipline and turning off the un associated objects using VG

and then i export each 3d view as a dwxf/dwf file

this breaks them down as an object catagories such as doors, windows, walls, ducts, lights etc,.

hope this helps.

Slicing up the model based on Level to Level elevations will help you here.  I have a blog on this workflow, and in my blog I reference a couple of blogs that you can read up on.
