Hello, and welcome to the Discussion Groups!

I would suggest starting on your first Project using the default Electrical Template. Load in all Families* and make all changes as needed to the Project, including setting up View Templates and the like. Once the Project is complete, you can create your Project Template based off of this File for use with other Project. It will l take a good deal of use before your Project Template is in good enough condition, and you will likely never be done making modifications to it.

*You can find Families in a few places, such as Revit City, directly from a manufactuerer's website, or on Autodesk Seek.

I am working with REVIT MEP 2014 and I do not have a default Electrical Template. I do have Construction, Architectural, Structural and Mechanical. How can I download the Electrical Template?

Hello, and welcome to the Discussion Groups!

If you go to the Application Menu (the big 'R') New Project and click "Browse...", you don't see it? They should have been included in the initial install, but if not, I have attached the default electrical Templates that I have for both Imperial and Metric (in .zip files since this forum disallows .rte files). They should be placed under the folder below.

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2014\Templates\US Imperial

*"RVT 2014" is for the full version, it may be different for you.

Hiall,

Apolgies for bringing this thread back to life, but it seemed the most appropriate thread to post on.

I am in the process of creating a Project template for the company i am working for and i have pretty much finished the first run through including, views - sheets - filters - view templates - annotation settings - to name a few (i have no doubts about the fact i will need to modify this later on). my query is this:

I have added levels to the project template - obviously when i bring in an architectural model and copy monitor etc. these architectural models will move as and when the architect alters building height, floor heights and whatever else. How can i get the levels that i have added into the template to move with the changes that the architect does to theirs.

I have spoken to a number of specialist companies and have been made aware that this is possible, but i need to go on a training course to learn how to do this, it is also mentioned on the AutoDesk Knowledge webpage under the project templates section.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank You

we typically just delete the levels that were part of the template after we copy/monitor the linked levels.  they are there a placeholders.  we use the starter project method so that we can also setup all of our standard worksets and links.

Thanks for the reply Mitchell,

I thought deleting the levels that were put into the template would delete the views that have been set up, as each level is associated with a particular view

yes, that is correct.  are you using view templates in your views?

I am using view templates yes,

so i have set up views based upon the levels i created and applied view templates to these depending on service types. The copy/monitor aspect is the only area that is troubling me

Thanks

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

When you're linking in the Revit model, Instead of using Copy/Monitor with the linked model, manually move your Levels to match those of the linked model and just use the Monitor to establish a relationship. If the linked model has additional Levels, then use Copy/Monitor for those.

Thanks Corey,

That sounds like a winner!

i will give this a try out today, my main concern would be if the architect has to change their levels for whatever reason, and then i have to manually move up all the M&E services

Thanks

Sam

So, i gave the above a try as suggested, and when i loaded in a new model that has different levels to the previous (provided by the architect) i was notified that the instance required co-ordination, which is miles more information that it's given me before. Happy that i am a step closer!

However, the levels that i inserted into the project template stayed at the same level as the architects previous model.

Is there a way to get my levels to move up with the architects levels should they change in this way? I've attached a screen shot of the notification i received

Thanks

Sam

Under the Coordination Review dialog (Collaborate tab Coordination Review Select Link), you'll be presented with possible actions to resolve the conflict, one of which should be to move your Levels to match their associated Level in the linked model. This should be identical between those Levels that are created with 'Copy/Monitor' and those existing Levels that are associated with 'Monitor'.

Corey,

Thanks, that has worked a treat!

I have tried to select this as a solution, apparently i don't have the privileges to do so.

But for all reading, If you are looking for the solution, this is it!

Thanks again

I am also having a very hard time finding a template that includes mechanical and plumbing. Also a template of just an open building so I can try to add and design a mechanical system into it. I am very fluent in autocad and solidworks but I am really struggling with this program. Solidworks has tutorials that you can work through and so far as I have seen Autodesk rebut has none of the above. Thanks to anyone that can help I would truly appreciate it.
