Problems with MEP design using lined arch model?

Is anyone else experiencing problems using a linked arch model? We seem to
be running into a series of issues that only occur when using a linked
model. We are over the lack of content (after all, AutoCAD doesn't come
with a ton of content out of the box... ). Our issues are more about work
flow.

In a nutshell:

- Wall hosted objects like receptacles have to be inserted as face based
objects. Then when the architects make changes and we update the linked
model, we get tons (in the latest case 273) of errors like "Instance origin
does not lie on host face" & "highlighted geometry no longer determines a
plane" which mostly refer to electrical devices, and warnings about (mostly)
architectural data like room tags and zones. The only way to "address" the
errors is to deleted the offending elements.

- In a linked file walls are not "walls" they just objects. However it
appears you really need them to be "walls" because of the relationship with
devices and ceiling objects. But when we try to copy/monitor the walls, the
physical appearance of the walls change. Most likely due to the fact that
the architect modified the "standard" family on their end.

- It seems that if the MEP is in the same office as the A and everyone is
working from the same central file, these issues go away. Which makes it
very difficult to explain to our hold ups to clients who have MEP in house.
It works for them... No linkee - no problem.

We have tabled our Revit implementation until we can get over, through, or
around these problems. Although we are being forced to move forward with
HVAC on our pilot project, Electrical is out. We've been fairly dilligent (I
think) about keeping a record of the problems and submitting to the support
team. I was just curious if it's just us or if others are experiencing
similar issues with linked models.

Thanks.

Everyone seems to be having this issue. Hopefully autodesk fixes this MAJOR flaw in any upcoming releases.

We have the same problem
We work for a firm that has in house MEP, and has not seen the problem. they work on the arch file and we work on a linked file. Every object will need to be made as a face based family and you will have to deal with them moving stuff. Our best attempts to solve the problem, is to tell the arch to quit deleting walls and move the walls instead. this will help to subside the problem.

I understand your problem exactly, but unfortunately for us the architects think that the MEP software is as good as theirs, and we can find content on the web like they can. I wish they could wear my shoes for a day.

Same issue with linked models. The wall and roof stuff doesn't work. Additionally the view range for the ceiling plans is goofy.
