Model Text-generic model

Hi I have imported an IFC file into revit. It brought everything in as a generic model. I want to add model text to these generic models but that doesnt seem possible because when I select on a piece and press "edit in place"  the "model text" button is greyed out. Is there a way around this? Thanks,

Create the Model Text as a separate Family and then place an instance of it while editing the In-Place Generic Model IFC.
