Fatal Errors After Reformatting Multiple Times Per Day

Hello,

I reformatted my computer a few months ago.

It was running perfectly fine before reformatting and was only done so to change hard drives.

Now that I reformatted, I get MULTIPLE fatal errors daily within Revit MEP 2012, AutoCad MEP 2012, and Revit MEP 2013.

In addition, I get blue screens usually every day.  More info on this thread can be found here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/need-help-with-bsod/cd440ebd-d323-...

I've been told it's AutoDesk causing the problems and I'm pretty convinced it is.

I don't know what to do next.  I've un-installed revit three times now and it's not fixed.

Any ideas?

based off what?
by reading that thread it looks like its a hardware issue
blue screens are usually hardware related or driver related

from Gerry's reply on February 28th stating, "WSCommCntr3.exe = Autodesk is causing many problems."

The only thing that has changed in my computer is the SSD went to a HDD.

This is still an issue.  It's gotten to the point where I can't even open a view in Revit without it fatal erroring out.

Can anyone help?

did you figure out whats causing the blue screens and fix it?

it could be to tied to why revit is erroring out

I am not getting blue screens anymore.

I am still getting fatal errors, and already had another one since my reply earlier today.

I'm sorry that you're still seeing fatal errors. I have a few questions for you about the behavior on the Revit side:

  1. How often does the error occur? Can you reproduce it consistently?
  2. Is there anything that seems to trigger the error or does it seem random?
  3. After you receive the error, are you prompted to submit an error report to Autodesk? If so, have you?
  4. What graphics card do you have installed and what is the driver version?
  5. Have you tried a full clean install of one of the products? Could you try one with the Revit 2013 application, following these steps?: 2013: How to Complete a Clean Install [Uninstall] of Revit products

Kathryn,

The error occurs in Revit 2012 almost 3-4 times per day.

Revit 2013 is maybe once per day.

Autocad is around twice per week.

There is no reproducible action that causes this crash.  It's very random.

I submit error reports to autodesk on every single fatal error.

I have done clean installs because I've reformatted my computer twice now.

Thanks for the update. What was the graphics card and driver on the machine?

Are you working with Hardware Acceleration enabled? Can you try disabling it to see if there is a difference?

I am going through your error reports - thank you for adding the notes in them. It looks like a lot of the problems happening opening/closing/saving. I'm wondering if some of the behavior is file-specific. Have you been working in a particular set of projects where this is happening?

ATI Radeon 5700 Series

Driver Version 9.012-121219a-154611C-ATI

Catalyst Version 13.1

Yes, it is enabled.  It has never been a problem in the past.  I can disable, but I would like to know what this does before disabling.

Its been happening in all projects, not just a single one.  I have had a few erorr reports since your latest response as well.

Thanks for the update.

Here's some more information on hardware acceleration and what you can expect by disabling it: http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Revit/enu/2013/Help/00001-Revit_He0/3032-Customiz3032/3178-Options3178/...

From your crash earlier this morning I see you were opening a titleblock, and it appears you've had this problem before. Can you consistently crash with this titleblock or does it only happen sometimes?

Kathryn,

I cannot get it to consistently crash.

I do not want to disable hardware accelleration unless it is creating the problem.

What conclusions have been made from analyzing my crash reports?

Message 14 of 16

Unfortunately the reports are inconsistent and there isn't much I can extract from them that leads to anything. It looks like there should be an updated driver version for your Radeon graphics card up on AMD's site (from a few days ago) - you might want to try installing it to see if it changes anything. I would still suggest disabling hardware acceleration just to test to see if it makes a difference. If you still crash, you can just turn it back on.

Any luck with the new driver or hardware acceleration testing?

I have had only a few crashes lately since I stopped using ASUS motherboard monitoring software.  I think that had something to do with it, so I haven't disabled hardware accelleration since then.

I'll keep monitoring my crashes and update if they become numerous again.
