Family Types/Geometry Question

Can different family types display different geometry? If so how?!? I do not want to create another family for different sizes of the same part.

I have a part I am creating, when it gets to a certain size the basic shape changes to something completely different.

Answer:
Use the "Visibility" check box under the properties of a geometry element and link that to a yes/no type parameter.

If it is a matter of simply turning ON and OFF a piece of geometry, then you should be able to associate a parameter to its "Visible" property. The associated parameter can have a conditional statement such as =Length > 10. If the Length parameter exceeds 10, then the Visible parameter would be turned ON for the associated geometry

1. Create the geometry to display ON/OFF.
2. Select it, and then click Properties.
3. Click the small empty rectangle (Associate Family Parameter) at the far right of the Visibility row.
4. Add Parameter - Give it a name such as the part name of the geometry.
5. Click OK several times.
6. Go to Family Types.
7. Assign formula to new parameter such as =Length > 10.
8. Create additional family types as needed.

Hope this helps.

How can I tell connectors when to be visible in each family type?

The family I am creating has 2 round duct connectors and 2 square duct connectors.

This post is not the place for you to vent your personal experiences with Revit MEP. This is a technical question post.

Take your whining and post it somewhere else.

Now if someone can answer my question above, I would appreciate it.

Answer came from a fellow AUGI member:

Unfortunately, "non-visible" does not mean "not-present." Connectors will always be there, so if you want to have square and round connectors you will need two different families.
