Why duct size is not consisten in the elevation/section view and plan view. Thanks

When labeling duct, the first number represents the width you see, and then the depth.  When looking at the section end of the duct, the width you see is 500.  In the elevation of the same duct you see the 300 and it is listed as such.  It's a drafting standard from the days back on the board.
