Duct Routing

Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of the "base" function in Revit 2009 MEP when you are creating a system for HVAC. Just not sure what purpose the tool is there for.

It allows you to specify the base point for the proposed layouts in situations where you have not selected System Equipment yet.
