Callout Bubble changed to arrow.

Is there a way to change a callout from using a bubble to using an arrow to point at the object being called out?

If not, is there a way to keep details referenced and have them kept connected like a callout?

Example:

Plan view- Mechanical Equipment (being pointed to)callout showing (MP501 detail 3) **no bubble, arrow pointed at it.

Detail Sheet- Mechanical Equipment Detail (ref as MP501 detail 3)

This is not currently possible. I tried an experiment in using a View Reference Tag to accomplish this, but to no avail.

You have a good idea here. What if a Drafting View could be assigned to a Model Element as a detail? Then a View Reference Tag would work very well. Perhaps a post in the MEP Wishes forum would be appropriate...
