Modeling as-built pipes in Revit

I wish for an easier way to create as-built piping in Revit from point clouds.

I currently use the workflow shown here: http://zpositive.com/?p=301

I have also tried clearedge and others with little satisfaction.

There are plenty of ways to do this outside Revit but nothing imports/converts...

Ultimately it would perfect if I could fit Revit pipes directly to lines or cylindrical geometry imported via dwg file.  And I am talking out of plumb, crooked, off angle madness.  

Note: I know I can fit pipes by selecting imported lines but I don't want the pipe snapping to the active workplane.

Any chance we might see something like this someday?  Or anyone have some suggestions to make the above linked process easier?
