Ability to Query Linked File Items From Plan View

This can be done when linking a dwg file as well as hiding the item.

Currently, in Revit, we have to close the file we are working on, open the architect's (or whomever's) file, find the item and get its information. Then after going back into our mep file, we can go into our VG and turn the item(s) off. Its an effective, but very aggrevating process.

I've seen an increasing amount of families having their own imports in families which is making this process of hunting items that we need to hide in our views more difficult.

I do feel that the architect, structural, etc could purge down their files before sending and it may improve this situation. I have seen up to 10 different line styles for a 1 hour rated wall in some architects files...that's a lot of checking and unchecking to see which one it is I need.

From within your MEP file:

1. Hover over the architectual element you're curious about

2. Press tab and it will become hi-lighted

3. Click once to select it.

The properties palette will give you a lot of information on this element now. But if that isn't enough:

1. From the modify ribbon, click the "COPY" button

2. Then click "PASTE IN SAME LOCATION"

You can now gather more information about the object.
