I just can`t figure out what's wrong with this Philips lights from the Seek - can't get any useful output from those. (Day-Brite DayLed 2x2 45W unit on the attached image files)
Try adjusting the Tilt Parameter in the Type Properties, from -90 to 90.
Still wrong with tilt value at 90 degrees, now inverted.
When I initially looked at the family, it looked like the direction of the light was preventing it from leaving the fixture, but after making various changes to the tilt value; I am finding that the colors of light coming out of the fixture are not what I would expect. Try making the following changes:
1. Open the family.
2. Select the light source.
3. Click the Light Source Definition command.
4. Change the light distribution from Photometric Web to HemiSpherical.
5. Ensure the direction of the light source is correct (when I did this, it was directed towards the host instead of away, and I mirrored it in an elevation view).
6. Load updated family into project.
I think your suggestion does not addres this problem.
There are a lot of light fixtures families on the Seek with this same behavior (problem), mostly (or all) are led lamps.
What about AEI values with those changes?
Could the light simulation still be realistic?
I also verified the ies file, it is on correct location and loaded.
The strange thing is: the component comes to be put on a wall, not on the ceiling.
Put on a wall, it is rendered okay.
So... maybe Philips is using the wrong family template on his light fixtures...

Well, the issue actually is not about the family template used, but is on the mental ray engine and the rendering of led light properties.
I must confess that the 2012 rendering of Revit is sluggish, and with poor results, compared with other new generation rendering engines.
On anything more than the absolute simple set, when you need to render with diverse daylight openings and artificial lights, the rendering take ages to be done. And with the default "best" settings, no acceptable interior lighting can be obtained.
I have found that the issue is caused by the IES file used with the family (this is why turning off Photometric web cleared the issue). This has been logged with our development group.
I suppose it's not about the IES, but about the Mental Ray: on 360, the lights render perfectly.
Also, the Revit Mental Ray internal rendering is giving very poor results - there are almost no way to render an internal scene with low light conditions. When there are plenty of daylight, the external renderings are not 100% correct, but are gorgeous. I want the same results on low light internal scenes.
