who can explain to me what exactly does Lock option?

when i want create a grid, i choose Pick line tools and then i can active Lock check box, but i don't know how this work,

please explain for me with example

The Lock check box next to the Offset text box, when using "pick lines" is available when the offset value is zero. It means that you can pick a line as a reference and have the element aligned and locked at the same time, without you having to do align & lock in two separate steps.

 

In the illustration provided, there is a wall. I want to create a grid line that is aligned and locked to the center line of the wall. Then I use Home > Grid > pick lines > offset = 0.0 > activate "Lock" > pick the center line of the wall. The result is that the new grid line is both aligned and locked in one single step to the centerline of the wall.
