It would be much easier to make a list of the similarities.

Very little is the same, they are fundmentally different ways of dealing with the same problem.

It might be better to explain what you are trying to achieve and them people can give you a much more useful answer.

Actually i hold revit teaching classes and i think students needs to understand the diffrences between these two software, for example if you wantt to buy a cellphone gsm.com will give you a comparision table, so by this you can decide better.

Revit and AutoCAD are two fundamentally different programs. You are not comparing apples to apples - it is more like apples to a steak.

AutoCAD while has 3D capabilities, is more used for standard 2D drafting (and this does depend upon what industry you are working with, some do more 3D then others). You have many different dwg files that you use to pull together a full set of documents. You are manually coordinating everything and manually updated the changed across all files. This can lead to unintentional errors that will require more time and effort and money to chase down and get the correct information where it needs to be.

Revit is specific to 3D modeling. You have one model that multiple people can work on. It is based on 3D elements that are intuitive and understand the relationships between the elements. The coordination is automatic, you move a door - every view that door is in is updated with the changes. The schedules are live and created from the elements that are in the model. From the model you will have your views which shows the 3D elements 2D that you can create your documents from. You can note on the 3D views to show more information in an area and clarify what is happening. You have better coordination between disciplines and the model can continue to move forward from design and construction to facility management - there are CAFM (computer aided facility management) programs that can connect directly to a revit model. This will give the owner access to all the information and help facilities with more information at their fingertips.

There are many differences between the two programs - to me it all comes down to what it is needed for.

Here is a link to the differenced between Revit LT and AutoCAD LT >LINK<

it is just the light version of both programs but figured thei would give the basics.

You can't think AutoCAD and run Revit.
