problem while import CAD

hi,

we made a simple assembly in autocad having few different parts.

each parts are in different layers and each part having different color.

when we import that CAD file in REVIT 2011.

the parts doesn't have the same layer as we set in autocad and also it is very difficult to change the color of each parts.

if we change any one part's color, the color of next part get changes.

even we made a simple object of having two parts and 2 layers

import in revit and try to change the colr.

that also doesn't  work.

I don't have Revit 2011 anymore, but CAD import has not changed much over the years. When you say that everything is on the same layer in Revit, are you just selecting the file onscreen? If so, it does highlight the whole thing. This is because the CAD import/link is one element in Revit. However, all the layers that you bring in are still there. They can be seen in Visibility/Graphics. (View tab, or type the keyboard shortcut VG). Click on the Import Categories tab. You will see each CAD file listed. Expand it to see its layers.

If all of the layers are coming in black and white instead of color, you control this when you import at the bottom of the dialog. There is a drop-dwon for colors that has choices for Black and White, Color and Invert. Color and Invert are both in color either using the original color from CAD (color) or inverting them to make them easier to see on Revit's white background. I am guessing yours is set to Black and White which is why it appears that there are no colors.

You can also click the CAD file onscreen, and then on the ribbon, click the Query button to touch individual objects in the file. When doing this, a dialog will appear showing its layer from CAD. You can also click Hide in View and it will turn this layer off.

Back in Visibility/Graphics, you can override the colors of layers and turn them on and off.

Hope that helps.
