What's the deal with rendering artificial lights???

I'm trying to render different lighting scenerios so I trun off the lights I don't want and render. Ahhhh but Revit renders with the lights on anyway. After trial and error for about two hours I finally turn them all off. But Revit is stubburn and renders as if the light are on. What am I missing here???
