What’s involved in converting autocad drawings to Revit?

Hi,

We need to find out what’s involved in converting autocad drawings to Revit. During the conversion process how much information comes across. How much can be automatically converted and what has to be manually done? Any areas of concern?

Please help me regarding this. Thanks in advace.

Thanks and Regards,

Nitin Kumar.

Hi

Depends on what you expect to convert from autocad to Revit. Is it a 2D floor layout, 3D blocks, details?

In most cases I would try to rebuild everything in native Revit. For example when receiving a 2d Floor layout I would link the autocad file into revit and then use linework from autocad to build model on top. When model is complete I wouild remove the link and continue with the revit model.
I always prevent to explode the autocad drawing in Revit as it might get "messy".

For some additional information see:

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
