USACE allows Revit on COS Projects

As of 3/16/11, the USACE HQ will no longer mandate the use of Bentley on Centers of Standardization (COS) projects. New RFPs will require either Revit or Bentley. The desision to use one or the other will be made at the project level.

While I would have rather have had software neutrality in the RPF to allow each company to use the tool that works best for them, at least there is a better chance that Revit will be allowed on COS projects now.

Do you have more infomation on this?  Where is this stated? Can you reference a particular document?

I have verbal confirmation from a USACE represenative. The person stated they believe wrtten confirmation will follow. I have request SAME and ACEC request written confirmation as well. Contact the Cadd/GIS Center of the USACE to confirm for yourself. As soon as I find written confirmation I will post a link.

I just recieved a clarification from the USACE CAD/GIS center BIM specialist.  He states that currently the Corp Distirct/Command can choose the format for NON-CoS projects, but on CoS projects there is still a requirement for Bentley format.  However, there may soon be a change to allow Revit for CoS projects as well.  He would not speculate on when that change might come.

Who was your USACE rep? Did he state where or when they might post written confirmation?  All this seems to be based on this document ERDC TR-06-10 (2010 Edition) which also references USACE attachement F https://cadbim.usace.army.mil/BIM

Please excuse all the questions but, there seems to be only speculaltion on how it will  be implemented by USACE, and no real clear reference to documentation to back it up.

The person I spoke with is Steve Spangler of the CAD-BIM Technology Center. He said the purpose was to give districts who wanted to use Revit that opportunity. Certainly not definative until we have written confirmation from USACE.

If true, this still does not mean that Bentely goes away, it only means that the installations (client) have first choice, and then each district offices has a choice after that.
