Standing Seam Metal Roof

I need to modify or create a roof family that has Standing Seam Metal Roofing on its exterior surface - the actual roofing material. Has anyone been able to create such a hybred . . . simply, successfully?

Hi,

at the roof settings you can define the material of the roof. You can set how it should be displayed in the project graphically (in 3D) and how it should be displayed in the rendering. You need to select "Standing Seam Roofing" in the render Appearance Library and you can specify it's appearance more at the metal settings.

I have created a small video file about the steps; please check it:http://screencast.com/t/g20J5yWD

Great idea, the video. I'm not certain what I'm doing wrong, but I don't get the results shown. There appears to be no soundtrack (at least It doesn't come through on my speakers or headphones).

I get a very different "Materials" window that comes up with a long list rather than the short one (I can't read the words) in the video. When I try to edit the roof surface material. I'm only able to change the color and render appearance, but can't get the seams Surface Pattern  to display correctly. I may not be selecting the correct fill. I'm using Vertical lines edited to 1/8" apart and set to "Vertical". They appear vertical in reference to the view rather than the element's roof plane slope. I get the same result setting the Orientation . . . to "Align with Element" or "Keep Readable".

Maybe a couple of details will shed light: I using Revit Architecture 2011 and the roof is a custom family that includes framing. would either of these cause what I see to look different than your video? Thanks for all your effort. I'm sure the problem resides in the mind of the requestor!

Hi,

I see. The rendering materials originate from the material libraries, that you install by default

with an Autodesk 2011 product.

Do you have installed the material libraries for Revit 2011?
-Autodesk Material Library 2011
-Autodesk Material Library 2011 Base Image Library
-Autodesk Material Library 2011 Medium Image Library

Check if you can see the folders of the materials eg find "standing seam roofing" on the path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials2011\assetlibrary_base.fbm\1(or2 or

3)\Mats

Attached a screenshot as well.

If the libraries are missing you need to install them.
About this topis let me recommend 2 articles from the revit Clinic:

http://withoutanet.typepad.com/without_a_net/2010/03/autodesk-2011-material-libraries.html#tp

http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/05/where-are-the-material-library-folders-in-revit-201...

Hope this way you can solve the issue.

ps- At the video file I haven't added sound;)

Greetigs,

I'm also trying to create a roof with a standing seam metal roof as the finish material. I looked for the "Standing seam metal" render apperance, but couldn't find it. Also, I tried looking at the video previously posted but the file appears to have benn romeved. Can you make it avelabable again or guide me in the steps that I should take to achieve this?

Thanks!

Can you post the video again. I click on the link and get an error saying "cannot locate the requested page".
Thanks!

Good morning! Would you be able to repost that video by chance? It doesn't appear to be available any longer.
