Snap in 3D

I note that snaps don't work in a 3D view.

Is this as designed?

Does anyone know if this will be overcome in a future release?

The snaps that are available depend on what element you are trying to place and what you're trying to snap to. For example, what the Placement Plane is set to or whether the 3D Snapping checkbox is checked on the Options Bar. What are you trying to snap to?

whether the 3D Snapping checkbox is checked on the Options Bar.

Where do I find this? I can't see any option to turn on 3D snaps. (revit 2011)

Not all element types have that 3D Snapping checkbox on the Options Bar - it doesn't mean they won't snap if you don't see it though. For example, if you try to place a beam in 3D you'll see it. If you try to place a wall you won't, but it will still snap in 3D, just according to its placement Level on the Options Bar. It would really help if we knew what you were trying to snap.

Generic models/components, but all elements generally. I also don't seem to be able to measure in a 3D view as that icon is greyed out.

On a side note, everytime I log onto this forum for the past week my browser tells me it can't find forums.autodesk.comhttp.

That is correct - the Measure tool is not active in 3D.

Unfortunately the snap tools are going to be different depending on what element you are adding and what you are trying to snap to. Unless we have a more specific idea of what you're adding, it's hard to identify what you should be seeing.

If you pick plane in 3D, it is possible to measure in 3D
