Shared Parameter Foumulas

How/what formula would you use to set a shared parameter equal to a family parameter for scheduling purposes? For instance, setting a shared parameter equal to the weight of a structural steel member. The weight is a family parameter that I wish to schedule.

open the family and add a parameter called weight. then it will be available in your schedules. If you want it "global" ie available for other families, then you create it as a shared parameter(check box in the parameter dialog box) then load it into your project via the project parameters pulldown. check all the object types you want it applied to and now it is schedulable for all families in those catagories.

Make sure you create the shared parameter FIRST!

Then use it to create a parameter in the family AND the project via Settings>Project Parameters.

In the family set the parameter to be equal to the parameter "W", an existing parameter, put it in the formula location next to your shared parameter. This way it will automatically fill in the weight per linear foot value in the family.

Then create a calculated value in the schedule that would read:

(Length/1')*Weight
