Section Tag - Head - Label Rotate/Flip

Section Tag - Head - Label Rotate/Flip

Is there a way for a label (detail number/sheet number) to rotate with a section tag rather than remaining horizontal?

Is there a way for the same label to flip along the main horizontal reference plane of a section tag?

We do not use the traditional circle head and when the head needs to rotate or flip the 'pointer' lands on top of the label.

I think I have exhausted all combinations of checked/unchecked boxes for 'Keep readable' and such.

Thanks,

Greg

in the section head family, check the parameter for "rotate with component"
and reload it into your project.

Scott - Thanks for the reply. That was one of the first things I had tried. It makes sense that it would work but I haven't seen it take affect in a project environment. I have rebuilt the head 3 times and have inserted each instance into 2 new projects created from different templates just to make sure my template isn't corrupt. I have tried nesting generic annotation and plain text as well getting the same result. I even tried grouping it to the geometry hoping it would learn from it somehow.

I have attached a crude jpg showing what I am going for, the section head in question and how it is reacting within a project.

Look forward to any further suggestions!

Has anyone figured this out? I have been search forever and can't find anyone that has actually been able to do this.

I'm strugling with the same thing. The only 'solution' to rotate the label seems to be a Section type for different directions... See http://therevitkid.blogspot.com/2010/01/tutorial-section-annotation-tweaks.html for explanation.

Dear all

I'm going to add yet another pending quesiton about always horizontal text in the section line.

I found a tutorial by "Revit Kid" however it also isn't perfect solution because the section head is looking as intended in the plan view
but again in the section view it falls apart... very, very, very annoying.

The Rotate with object appears to be broken in 2014.

You could use an elevation tag. Not ideal but at least the section head would face the right direction.

Looking around online, I found a fair number of threads regarding this topic, such as:
http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2013/02/rotate-with-component.html
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Revit-Structure/Hex-Section-Heads/m-p/3058330/highlight/true#M6065

The Revit OpEd link indicates that only certain categories will work with this parameter, hinting that this particular one (while not mentioned in the link) may not.

The next link has a way you can work around this limitation, by setting up text at different orientations within the family.

Any resolve to this issue? It seems like an easy fix or thing to do, but I can't seem to find a way to have the "Detail Number" follow the direction of the section once it's been flipped.

Are you able to use the video from the forum thread that I linked earlier, to setup seprate family types to control placement of the text?

Only solution is to have a couple of versions of the text in the family oriented different directions.

If Autodesk could offer a check box associated with these called "rotate with object" or "keep aligned with gridline" or a way to specify rotation or a way to link text from the tag into a generic tag placed in the family that could be constrained to an axis...

Wish at least two of these would work!

The links you posted still do not solve the problem... As "Joanah-Banana" stated above, creating different types with visibilty parameters for different angles/directions works only for plan view.  But when you go into your sections/elevations the section tag is then again rotated wrong.  This has been a problem for years, I am surprised Autodesk has not come up with a fix for this system family.

Yes, another one of those little things that is rather annoying.

There is a thread on the ideas forum which maybe folk could vote on to see if we can get ADesk to at least take a look...

unreal how i managed to work around this problem. i had a line that was from an old section tag but the 'Rotate With Section' was ticked but grayed out so i had to cut and past this line into new section. the Line worked but was still grayed out. i've not been able to draw a new line and find a 'Rotate With Section' option anywhere.

To confirm this is still an issue with Revit 2017.  The 'Rotate with Component' parameter does not work with any elements not included in the original 'Section Head' family template.  It also does not work with the label which makes it impossible to create truly custom section families without a drastic workaround.  Definitely seems like a bug.  The attached image is the intended result using a workaround of a custom section head with a rotated view reference.  This is not ideal as the view reference needs to be checked manually.

Autodesk-

If you could expose the links to the ID and number we could link in a generic annotation and tie those to the data points in the section head.

Any news on Revit 2018?
