When I specify a 3' overhang the results are zero overhang. I wonder why this is and if I am missing a step in creating an overhang or where the "overhang" starts.

Thank you for the initial information on creating the roof; can you elaborate on what type of roof you are creating?  By default you should be able to do the following:

1.  Start the roof sketch, pick or add lines.

2.  Specify an Offset of 3’-0”; you should notice the line is offset from the pick or when drawing new lines.
