Hi, I installed revit 2014 student version from the Autodesk website 2 days ago and started working on a model, saved, and shut down. Today I went to reopen and work on it (have been working on it for the past 4-5 hours) and realised it hadn't prompted me to save all night. Went to manually save and realised that I had opened the file in Revit Viewer Mode it is telling me I can't save and I was wondering if there is any way around this as I don't want to loose all my work.. Please help! Thanks in advance.
How did you open the drawing? Did you double click the file from Windows Explorer or open the file from within Revit?
Hi,
Unfortunately, if you opened Revit in Viewer Mode, there is no guaranteed way of saving your work. However, all MAY not all be lost!
Browse to the following folder on your computer:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2014\Journals
The files located here are a recording in text format, of what you have done in any given Revit session. Take a copy of the last dated file and drag'n'drop it onto the Revit icon on your desktop.
IF you are very lucky, Revit will reply this journal file, and if you have a license, you should be able to save the results.
This method isn't guaranteed, and can fail for any number or reasons (like if you swapped to another program like windows explorer for example) but it is about the only option open - apart from redoing all your work.
Hope this helps
For the observant out there, you may have noticed the deliberate typo...
The file path for Revit LT 2014 is of course:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit LT 2014\Journals
