Revit Server Autosync.config

The Autosync service runs currently by Autodesk default every 2 minutes.

So within Revit Server 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015 there is a config file that is located here: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit Server 2014\Services\AutoSyncService\Config\autosync.config

Contains"<AutoSyncConfiguration AutoSyncInterval="2" AutoSyncLogLevel="3" />"

My question is if I where to modify this config on a single Revit Server to be 10 min for the AutosyncInterval= would this single config be the only modification needed?

Also if modified, would it be an issue if the 11 different Central/Accellerator Servers possibly had different settings?

Technically speaking, what you are suggesting will work and is correct.

However, it is not intended to be a tunable setting, and the behavior of RS has not been tested for anything besides the default behavior. Thus if you choose to change the value they would do so at your own risk.

Having said that, there is no risk of complication that results from multiple accelerators having different autosync intervals. If an accelerator’s data is out of date, the local service will simply force the new data to be fetched from the host in real-time (“on-demand sync.”)

However, we are curious as to why you want to increase the sync interval. If there are no changes to the data being synced, the act of checking for updates is very quick and lightweight. Since syncing the changes in advance of a user action requesting that data is desirable from a performance and user-experience standpoint, and “unnecessary sync checks” are benign, in general you would want the interval to be very small. Increasing the interval would only increase the probability of having the accelerator’s cache contents fall out of date, which in turn would force the network traffic associated with a user action across the WAN when it might have otherwise been confined to the LAN.
