RVT files on later version cannot retrieved with Revit 2012

Hi, i am having trouble openning my rvt project file, it always make a comment "RVT files on later version cannot retrieved with this vesion (i am opening it with 2012)", But I had my 2011 version installed on the same PC, still having the same comment, Is there anyone could help me solve the issue, i am just a new user and not familiar with this kind of troubleshooting. Hoping there is a good heart to sort it out.  Thanks a lot.

Hello and Welcome to the discussion!

Revit 2012 cannot open a  Revit 2013 or newer file.

Revit 2012 can open a Revit 2011 or older file.

Revit does not have a save back feature. So files can not move backward - only forward.
