REVIT9.1 IS STUFFED & USELESS

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!

If saving drawings from Revit 9.1 to a main server these drawings will
become unusable as there is a bug in the program which is causing the
drawings to not fully save. Why would autodesk release a program if they
know of this major problem. We have lost a weeks worth of work ( 5
projects ) because of this problem.

This is a bit worrying, can you give more specifics??

I have only just upgraded to 9.1 this morning and I can't believe how much
slower it is in 3d, compared to what I was doing yesterday in 9.0!! whats
with that? I'm sure I have to tweak it somehow, BUT you would expect an
upgrade be better/faster from the get-go....

There are a great many people using Revit 9.1 with no problems like this. Have you discussed this with Autodesk Revit Support yet?

I spoke to our supplier here in Australia this morning, & he said it is huge
problem there having with the program and Autodesk is currently working on a
patch to fix this problem. The problem only occurs when you save your
drawings back to a central server. If just saving to your c: you will have
no problems. He also said that there are a heap more problems with this
release but didnt go into specifics.
The problem with this bug is that the drawings cant even be recovered as
they havnt fully saved. Would be good to hear from an Autodesk
Representitive to find out when this patch will be released.

Revit files are huge and complex when compared to almost any other software.
Revit files are vulnerable to corruption when saving regardless of the
version. If you have other programs running when saving, or your RAM is not
operating correctly, or you have a bug or virus, or you have operating
software problems (problems with windows? surely you jest), even driver
compatibility issues with insignificant peripherals....Revit will act like a
Canary in a coal mine. Whenever I've had corruption problems with Revit
files...it actually never turned out to be a Revit issue.

That being said....perhaps 9.1 does have a problem.

My supplier is adiment that it is a bug to do just with 9.1. Theres really
no reason for him to lie about it, and the fact it only started happening
once we upgraded shows it is only to do with 9.1.

you're in Aust?

who is the supplier?, I assume it will be the same as ours (there aren't
that many...) I would like to get a handle on this before we get into some
serious trouble.....

My main issue is that I can't work out what Graphic settings I need to make
9.1 stop jumping around in a 3D orbit!
I've tried all combinations of OpenGl and Overlay Planes and still I get
jumpy views / beam lines showing through my floor / not being able to select
my object at the point my cursor is at! all graphic driven I assume....
but it was all working so well yesterday!!
(arrgghh!)

Cheers,

Dan

Chris,

We upgraded to 9.1 almost 2 weeks ago. We have 15 seats running here. We're running anywhere from 3 to 10 projects at any given time all running from a server. We've run into problems in the past with projects suddenly coming to a stand still but the only problem we've ever had with information disappearing was when Revit changed the way the rooms were handled.

I'm not saying there's not a problem with the software. Its possible we just haven't had it occur here. As far as the supplier telling you there's a bug in the software, I previously worked on that side of things and sometimes 'there's a bug' is a catchall for 'I haven't got a clue why it's doing that'.

What system software are you running?

Our supplier is Karel Cad, I was trying to think of the guys name I was
talking to about it but just cant remember. I would suggest give your
supplier a call and ask them if they have heard of this problem. Karel Cad
in Aust release a news letter each month & in there last news letter it had
this problem stated in it. I didnt recieve this one personaly but will
contact Karel Cad today and ask to have it emailed to me then I will provide
a scanned copy of it on here for all to view.

Chris,
On XP Pro SP2 Dell presision workstations we are running 6 seats here with
no problems saving to a central Linux file server (SUSE 8.2. Revit Building
9.1 for Autodesk AutoCAD Revit Series-Building 9.1 Build Number:
20006_0810_2300. (english version USA)

Please be more specific on your envionment and software builds. What server
OS are you running - maybe this is your conflict with Revit 9.1? I agree
with Steve, we've seen some issues but not w/o work around and none like
this.

Great website for http://www.karelcad.com.au/ !!! "Win a Pallet of beer for

Yes, this is a known error.

Yes, many people have had it.

No, it's not a problem that plagues the program, it's something that happens on rare occasions. It can be solved be restoring a backup file then changing it into your Central file. If you create regular backups you perhaps may lose a bit of work, but you should be able to restore a backup and be back up and running. Message was edited by: ~Dilbert~

I not only save to the central server, I work straight off it. I haven't had any saving issues. Maybe it's an issue with the type of server you have.
