I am trying to create a panel railing where the panel will adjust to fill in end segments. I would like to have square posts every 4' o.c. with a panel between held off 4" from all sides. At the ends of the railing, I'd like the panel to automatically adjust to the remaining space and be equal to the remaining space at the other end. Is there a way to set up a reference in the baluster family file for the panel so that it can shrink/expand between the posts?
I've been struggling with the same problem. My solution for now is to create a curtain wall instead of a railing. Attach the bottom of the wall to your floor and then give it an unconstrained height up to the height of your railing. You can then create a solid panel of the material and thickness that you desire and create "mullions" for your railing and balusters. I hope this helps.
