Painting materials on a linked file

Any ideas on the best way to quickly paint materials on the surfaces of a linked file?  We need it for documentation of our interiors. Paint does not work through to the linked surfaces.

If you want to avoid unloading the linked file, you could open a separate session of Revit, open the linked file, and the paint the elements.

Once you are done painting, save the linked file, close it, and then in the first session of Revit, you can reload the link to see the changes.

Ok, but in a case where the link is set as "Existing" on Phasing, and the paint of the wall should be set as "New"? That´s my question today...
