start with a general understanding of the BIM process
and decide what part you will be working in and then
start with that part of revit..

maybe you are a building design artist- you could
start with revit massing..

maybe you don't know too much about construction-
then you would start with building a generic model.. then
learn about importing an AutoCAD site plan..

maybe you know construction drafting- you could
start with sheet layout and titleblocks and 2D drafting..

look at the whole picture and lay out a plan for yourself..

a few months ago i was in a discussion here
with someone and they were saying whatever
you do with revit you need to know how a
building is constructed- and i was saying no
no you can just build a generic model and
turn it over to a construction drafter when it's
ready for that or have the builder tell you
which way to model it..

i still feel BASICALLY the same way now but
a little different.. i feel like for a revit model
builder- how hard can it be to order one lousy
handbook on how buildings are constructed
and read it at least one time through..
know what i mean bern?

look @ the registered architects LOL @
us amateurs.. LOL

Go to www.schroff.com
Invest $35 for the following two books
Residential Design Using Revit Architecture and Commercial Design Using Revit Architecture.

They are great introductory step by step tutorials that show you clearly and easily many of the common procedures and concepts for creating a house or commerical building. I learned with them. See attached rendering that I completed after the reading the books.

Most people suggest the books by Paul Aubin. In my opinion, they are good books but full of a lot of in-depth information that is helpful after a simple tutorial and basic understanding of Revit is learned.

Good Luck......

i agree those two Stine books are the best to start
with.. in fact i still use them.. but it's funny that almost
every book about revit is good in its own way..

and these days there is no lack of good revit books-
we just need the will and the patience to do it..
