Making a hosted family non-hosted

I have a hosted family which I want to edit it to non-hosted. Presently it is hosted on a floor. When I try to delete the floor element, Revit does not allow it. Do I have to re-create the family in a different family creation template? All help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, you'll have to re-create the family as a non-hosted family. There is no way to edit or change a hosted family into a non-hosted family or visa-versa.
