Keynoteing Line work

I am doing a 3" = 1' detail of a window head detail. I have figured out how to use the element keynote for model components and detail components, but is there a way to assign a keynote to line work, say a piece of flashing? I don't want to just place text on it because then there will be no continuity in the naming throughout the set and it seems like more work then necessary to create a detail component for a piece of flashing.

Also, is there a way to modify the TXT file in Revit or do I have to open the TXT file directly?

It is not possible to attach a keynote to linework. You need to have a
detail component to attach a keynote. In order to edit the TXT file for
keynoting you have to open it in an external editor. the is no way to open
the file inside Revit.

You can create a simple Detail Component Family, and using "Local " Family variables, it'll be "stretchable" when you place it in the deatil. Then This could be Keynoted.
