'Generic' Window Family ( no Host ) and RoomTo / RoomFrom parameter

Hi,

We created window geometry inside a Generic Family template. Then changed the Family Category from Generic to Window. This object is then a free standing Window ( with no host ) and it will be picked up by the Windows Schedules.

My question: Is their any way to include an Exterior or Interior side to the 'generic' window or include a RoomTo RoomFrom parapeter into this 'generic'  Window Family?

It looks like the RoomTo RoomFrom parameters ( and Exterior and Interior sides ) are hardcoded within a Window Family.

Anyway any help will appreciated.

Thanks

Charl

No. At least not directly. Room parameters of windows are determined in reference to the exterior and interior sides of the host wall included in the window template.

However, you could nest your custom "window" into a window template, delete the void, place the object and control its placement in reference to the cross of reference planes of the template with length parameters, load this into a project, and now your window will report "from room" and "to room" values in the schedule. But your "window" must still be related to a host wall, even if it is outside of the wall.
