Hi,
I am using a revit student version and I was not able to load the families. I have downloaded the family files from this website but I cannot find where should I copy them. I cannot find the program data folder in my computer in order to copy the family files in there. Is it because of the version that I am using?
I don't know, we used to be able to download the
families and templates easy, but now it seems to
be different. Just as easy though I guess. When
you install Revit all that stuff is there, and if you
don't get it on install, you can go to "programs
and feature" and add it to your install.
Maybe someone else can be more clear on this
because I keep all that content on a secondary
drive.
I still can't find them though, I have no windows, no doors, and only one type of basic wall. According to cadlearning tutorials (for example http://www.autodesk.cadlearning.com/moodle/file.php/80/reva12c0004t0002.html) there should be multiple wall types.
I hope somebody knows where to find them or what I did wrong

Yes I see your predicament, without windows or doors your building
would be like a cave. Give me a few minutes to compose a nice
response to this common question. Who knows, I might need to
go get that stuff someday myself.
Okay first, as we all know by now, there is no secret backdoor link
for downloading that content. The Revit program itself has to get
that content. One of the problems getting it is that you might have
some high security restrictions to internet downloading. And although
you can download the program, the program might not be able to
bring that stuff with it because of those security restrictions. I would
first go into those browser security settings and open the thing up.
(I keep my computer wide open to the internet because it runs faster
and I never have anything but Windows and Revit on my small system
drive, so I DARE anyone to mess with those two programs, and if they
do, I'll just wipe THEM and everything else off my little system drive
and put the good stuff back on clean, all in about 5 min.)
But try this first:
1. Control Panel > Programs and features.
2. Select <Revit product and version> from the list and click Uninstall/Change.
3. Find the "Add or Remove Features" button and click it.
4. See the list of content packs that can be installed.
You might get lucky. But if you don't, then let's keep going.
Since updating the software with the programs and features ran stuck each time, I did a complete reinstall of the software. That solved the problem for me. Thanks for your help!
